Seaweed may be familiar to us, especially for people on the coast. However, not many people know the benefit of seaweed. Actually there are many benefit that we can get by eating seaweed. For some people, seaweed can only be use as a staple in making agar. However, seaweed can also be use as a new unique and valuable discovery.

Processed seaweed products in Indonesia include are: agar carvagena, alginate, which is hydrocolloid. With several properties of seaweed, this preparation can function as a gelling agent or a emulsifying agent.

The gehevally various types of seaweed have been cultivated are seaweed of chlorophyta, rodhophyta and cyanobacteria.

The author will describe the benefit of each seaweed above, as follows:

(1) The benefit of algae (chlorophyta)

The green algae is very benefit, specificially in health field such as:
  • Food contains the green algae that have to protect and increase body’s health, also have to protect a vital organ, like: heart, liver nad kidney also have to accelerate regeneration of body cell.
  • Green algae have to aid detocrofocation of chemichal compound and heavy metal like: the tin, mercury cadmium, arsenic, aluminium and uranium.
  • Green algae have to lower the cholesterol have to accelerate the injury cure. Green algae contains high clorofile, vitamin mineral, fribous food, nukleat acid, amino acid, enzyme and betacarotan. Contents high protein are 60,5% in comparison with other protein resource like milk, fish and meat cow.

(2) The benefit of brown algae (paeophyta)
